The Utah Valley University Strengthening Families Program is a research-based life and family skills training program that was developed by Dr. Karol Kumpfer. Utah Valley University implemented the program in 2008 under the supervisor of Dr. Grant Richards. The program is a nationally and internationally recognized parenting and family strengthening program for high-risk and general population families.
The FREE 12 week program is held one night a week for 2 1/2 hours and is divided into the following skill sets:
Dinner (half hour) - Families will eat dinner together and practice communication skills.
Individual Classes (1 1/2 hours) - Parents and children divide into separate groups to learn age-appropriate skills. Family Class (half hour) - Families come back together to practice skills learned in their separate groups.
“We have attended a number of programs without much success; however, attending the Strengthening Families Program has been different. We have learned more while attending the program then we have in all of the other programs combined.” - Former Participant
